Trip around the Island

During the tour around La Gomera the guests on board of Speedy Adventure get a good look at the island from the outside. The coast is about 100 km long and is covered with steep cliffs, deserted bays, wide valleys and diverse beaches.

!! The Speedy boat does not offer any tours at the moment !!

Of these 100 kilometers, approximately 83 km are steep coast and the rest are beaches, bays and harbors.

The sight one gets from the seaside over the deep gorges, which stretch across the entire island, is a very particular perspective. Instead, as usual when walking, where you see the gorges from the top to the bottom, during the trip around the island the so called barrancos, wide and very green, can be viewed from below.

Impressions of the trip around the island La Gomera

From Valle Gran Rey into the North

We start in Vueltas, in the port of Valle Gran Rey, towards the North. There in the remote areas are small settlements which are nowadays only partly inhabited.

The first place we will see is Taguluche, which is situated, viewed from the Valle Gran Rey, at the backside of the mountain La Merica.

Alojera and Tazo framed by palm groves

We continue passing Alojera, a small settlement that extends widely. Surrounded by farmland and palm groves, it is particularly quiet. Here we can see the Playa of Alojera, the beautiful beach which stretches over about 200 meters. From there one can observe wonderful sunsets.

The popular palm honey of La Gomera came formerly almost exclusively from Tazo. The little hamlet is a wonderful oasis of palm trees, with well over 12,000 date palms. From these, the palm juice is extracted, which is used to produce the miel de palma. The palm fronds are used to produce traditional wickerwork.

We continue towards Los Organos passing Arguamul

Further north just before we get to the Los Organos monument, there is located Arguamul. Here you can see well the traditional residences with brick kilns that were once typical for La Gomera. In Arguamul time seems just to stand still.

The Barranco of Arguamul was until the end of the eighteenth century one of the wealthiest areas of the city Vallehermoso. All villages of the fertile region here primarily cultivated cereal crops.

Today only a few locals are left who cultivate agricultural products here like wine, potatoes or tomatoes.

Passing the nature monument of Los Organos

We continue the tour, passing one of the landmarks of La Gomera, the rocks of Los Organos. Guests on board of Speedy come very close to the beautiful and unique nature monument.

This naturally created artwork is around 80 meters high and about 175 meters wide.

It is so special because of the huge basalt columns which protrude vertically out of the water and are strikingly uniform. Due to its similarity with organ pipes, the Los Organos got their name.

Along the Northeast coast

The island tour takes us further along the northeast coast, past Vallehermoso, Agulo and Hermiga. Clearly to see from aboard are the former Pescantes of Agulo and Hermigua, the former loading stations for ships, which are now used by the locals as natural pools.

Another eye-catcher in Hermigua is the Playa de la Caleta, probably the most beautiful beach in the whole North. The natural beach is spread over the entire bay and is on one side fringed with black sand and on the other side there is a rocky beach.

On a clear day from there you have a fantastic view to the Teide mountain on the neighboring island of Tenerife.

Heading south past the capital of La Gomera

The tour goes further along the east coast towards the south, where we pass the island’s capital San Sebastian. Here is the main port for ferries between La Gomera and Tenerife.

On this section we will pass the beaches of Playa de San Sebastian, Playa de la Cueva and Playa de la Guanche.

Until the south, where the idyllic place Playa Santiago is, the coast consists primarily of cliffs. In Playa Santiago you will get a look at the chic resort of Jardin Tecina which is located on top of the cliffs.

Back to Valle Gran Rey

From Playa Santiago it goes along the southwest coast back to Valle Gran Rey. On this part of the tour we pass by several bays such as La Cantera, which is located below Alajero, where earlier the famous fish factory was housed.

Today the still visible ruins are silent witnesses of the once important business location, which closed its doors in the 70’s.

Not far away is the next bay, called La Rajita. Here was the cannery, which worked hand in hand with the fish factory La Cantera. With the end of the one factory also the other one was to be closed.

We pass then the Playa and the Roque de Iguala, which are located directly in front of the entrance to the harbor of Valle Gran Rey.

Trips around La Gomera are available on request

For the tour of the island, the weather and the sea conditions must be very good. Since the Atlantic Ocean has different currents on every coast, this tour cannot be planned on a long-term basis.

Whenever the trip around the island is requested we check the conditions and decide quite spontaneously if and when we can offer the tour.

So just get in contact with us or come by the office in the port and ask us for possibilities. The trip takes about lasts three and a half hours and departs in the port of Valle Gran Rey.
